Who Was Yury Dokhoian?
Yury Rafaelovich Dokhoian (1988) was a Russian chess Grandmaster of Armenian origin.
Yury Dokhoian was born in Yerevan, Armenia, on October 26, 1964. He won several overseas contests and competed in numerous USSR Championships. Among Dokhoian's accomplishments are the following:
Bucharest 1986: 1st place
Plovdiv 1988: 1st place
Budapest 1988, 2nd place
In Yerevan in 1988, he finished third behind Smbat Lputian and Lev Psakhis.
3rd place in Sochi 1988
1st place in the B tournament at Wijk aan Zee, 1989, with Friso Nijboer.
In Copenhagen in 1991, he shared first place with Yury Pskov.
In Aarhus, he tied for second place.
1st place at the Summer Olympics in Berlin in 1992
Godesberg 1993: 1st place
Lublin 1993: 1st place
In 1993, he shared first place at the Münster Open.
Yury Dokhoian played in the Bundesliga for Bielefeld in the 1990/91 season, then for Bochum from 1991/92 through 1994/95. Yury Dokhoian's best year was 1994 when he received a rating of 2580. Dokhoian's active tournament career came to an end in 1995.
