How Did Marco Antonio Raupp Die?
Raupp was engaged in a major automobile accident on July 10, 2016, which necessitated surgery and a medically induced coma. At the age of 83, Marco Antonio Raupp died of sudden respiratory failure caused by a brain tumor in So José dos Campos on July 24, 2021.

Who Was Marco Antonio Raupp?
Marco Antonio Raupp was a Brazilian mathematician and politician. He was the Director of the National Institute for Space Research, the President of the Sociedade Brasileira para o Progresso do Ciência, and the Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation in Brazil.
Raupp earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and a doctorate in mathematics from the University of Chicago. He taught at the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of So Paulo and the University of Brasilia. He was also the director of the Laboratório Nacional de Computaço Cientifica, where he was the head researcher (LNCC).
Raupp was named a Commander of the Order of Rio Branco and a National Order of Scientific Merit for his achievements as the head of the LNCC and his many professorships. Later, he was President of the Sociedade Brasileira de Matemática Aplicada e Computacional (SBMAC). He was the Director of the Parque Tecnológico de So José dos Campos and a member of the International Academy of Astronautics. He was also the President of Brazil's Space Agency.
President Dilma Rousseff appointed Raupp to replace Alozio Mercadante as Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation on January 24, 2012. Following President Rousseff's ministry changes, he resigned on March 17, 2014.
