Who Was Mary Ward?
Mary Ward also known as Mary Ward Breheny, was an Australian actress and radio broadcaster who worked on stage, television, and film. Ward had his training in England and Australia and worked on the stage in England before making his film debut.
Prior to World War II, Ward returned to Australia and became one of the first female radio announcers for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). She performed in a number of videotaped stage plays while at ABC Television, as well as in Australian films, both made-for-television and theatrical.
She is perhaps best known—both locally and internationally—for her roles as elderly characters in television soap operas, such as the original character of the convict "Mum" (Jeanette) Brooks in the cult series Prisoner, in which she appeared sporadically from 1979 to 1981, and as devious Dee Morrell in the soap opera Sons and Daughters in 1983.
