PanARMENIAN.Net (PanARMENIAN.NET) - Djivan Gasparyan, an Armenian musician, composer, and duduk master player, died on Tuesday, July 6 at the age of 92, according to his grandson Djivan Gasparyan Jr.

Who Was Djivan Gasparyan?
Djivan Gasparyan was an Armenian composer and musician. He played the duduk, a woodwind instrument with two reeds similar to the symphonic oboe. Gasparyan is recognized as the "Duduk Master." In 2006, he received a Grammy nomination for Best Traditional World Music Album.
Gasparyan, to Mush's parents, began playing the duduk at the age of six. He joined the Armenian Song and Dance Popular Ensemble and the Yerevan Philharmonic Orchestra as a soloist in 1948.
He earned four medals in UNESCO events around the world (1959, 1962, 1973, and 1980). Gasparyan received the honorary title of Armenian People's Artist in 1973. He won the WOMEX (World Music Expo) Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002. He is a Yerevan Honorary Citizen.
