How Did David Leckie Die?

David Leckie, a legendary former Australian television executive, died at his residence in the NSW Southern Highlands at the age of 70.

Who Was David Leckie?

From 1994 to 2012, David John Leckie was the chief executive officer of Seven West Media, an Australian media company. Leckie attended Newington College (1962–1968) and graduated from Macquarie University with a bachelor's degree in economics.


Prior to Kerry Stokes' appointment to Seven, he worked for the Nine Network for 23 years. He began his career as a sales executive at GTV-9 (Melbourne) and rose through the ranks to National Sales Manager, then Nine Network Sales Director at TCN-9 in 1982. (Sydney). He was named Managing Director of the Nine Network in August 1990, and Chief Executive Officer in 1994. He became a trustee of the Centennial Park and Moore Park Trust in 2001.


On April 5, 2008, it was disclosed that Leckie had been placed in an induced coma owing to complications from a finger injury, but that he had recovered completely.
