How Did Kartal Tibet Die?

Actor Civan Canova revealed on Instagram Thursday night that veteran Turkish actor and director Kartal Tibet had died at the age of 83. “Goodbye, dear brother Kartal, I shall miss you very much,” the statement read, without elaborating on the actor's cause of death.

Who Was Kartal Tibet?

Tibet, born in Ankara's Turkish capital in 1938, studied theater at Ankara University State Conservatory. His films, which he directed or featured in, are among the best examples of Yeşilçam, or traditional Turkish cinema.


Tibet was one of Ankara's first private theater founders, Meydan Sahne, in 1961, and made significant contributions to Turkish cinema with approximately 200 films.


Tibet directed 56 films since making his directorial debut with "Tosun Pasha" in 1977. The majority of these films did well at the box office, and more than 20 of them featured late actor Kemal Sunal.
