Who Was John Cornell?
John Cornell was born on 2 March 1941 in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. John Cornell was an Australian film producer, writer, actor, and businessman. He was most recognized for his appearance on The Paul Hogan Show as "Strop," and he was a driving force for the creation of World Series Cricket in 1977.
Cornell was born on March 2, 1941, in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. He grew up in Bunbury. He claimed to have been called a "ratbag" in school, but he graduated from Bunbury High School with honors in English and Economics. Despite considering a career in pharmacy, he was offered a cadetship at Perth's The Daily News because of his passion for media.
Cornell worked as a journalist for The Daily News (a magazine of West Australian Newspapers) in Perth, where he became an editor at the age of 26.
Cornell discovered the talents of a Sydney Harbour Bridge rigger, Paul Hogan while working as a producer for the television show A Current Affair in 1971. (who had been the subject of an interview by the station). Cornell became Hogan's manager and frequently featured as a character named "Strop" on his successful television show,
The Paul Hogan Show (a dim-witted dinkum Australian surf lifesaver). He produced and co-wrote the screenplay for Hogan's Crocodile Dundee, becoming Australia's highest-grossing film. Crocodile Dundee II, a successful sequel released in 1988, was again produced and directed by him.

Like most Gen-Xers I have such fond memories of John Cornell, "Strop", who was so entertaining and lovable - and it's never easy being the "side kick" but Strop was just the best. RIP https://t.co/znZ1R7YF0b
