Horwitz, an economist who spent the majority of his career as a professor at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, before moving to Ball State University as the Distinguished Professor of Free Enterprise and Director of the Institute for the Study of Political Economy, died this morning at the age of 57.

Steven Horwitz was an Austrian economist. He was born on February 7, 1964, in Detroit, Michigan, U.S.
Horwitz was a Distinguished Professor of Free Enterprise in the Economics Department of Ball State University's Miller College of Business in Muncie, Indiana. He retired from St. Lawrence University as the Dana Professor of Economics Emeritus in 2017.
