How Did Jon Hassell Die?
Jon Hassell, the prominent American avant-garde composer who popularized the global-minded "fourth world" musical style, died at the age of 84.
His family said in a statement that the "iconic trumpet player, author, and composer" passed away in the early hours of June 26 after just over a year of health issues.

Who Was Jon Hassell?
Jon Hassell, a trumpet player, and composer from the United States have been active since the 1960s. He was born on March 22, 1937, in Memphis, Tennessee, U.S.
He is best known for coining the term "Fourth World" music, which refers to a "unified primitive/futurist sound" that incorporates components from many world ethnic traditions with current electronic techniques.
On Fourth World, Vol. 1: Possible Music, his 1980 collaboration with Brian Eno first stated the concept. He'd also collaborated with musicians including Talking Heads, Farafina, Peter Gabriel, Tears for Fears, Ani DiFranco, Techno Animal, Ry Cooder, Moritz von Oswald, and Carl Craig.
