How Did Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh Die?
The Queen's "strength and stay" for 73 years, the Duke of Edinburgh, has died at the age of 99.
He died at Windsor Castle earlier this morning. The news was confirmed by the Royal Family on Twitter this afternoon. In its brief statement, the Royal Family made no mention of how the Queen's husband died.
They just said the Duke of Edinburgh died "peacefully" at the monarch's residence in a statement posted this afternoon.
A follow-up announcement will be made in due course, according to the release.
The statement read, "It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
"His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.
"Further announcements will made in due course.
"The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss."
