Julie Pomagalski Death Cause
Authorities said Julie Pomagalski, a former Olympic and world champion snowboarder from France, was killed in an avalanche in the Swiss Alps on Tuesday.
The accident happened shortly before noon in the canton of Uri in Switzerland. According to a press release from Uri cantonal police, a group of four French people were freeriding down Gemsstock mountain when a slab of snow broke loose.
Freeriding is a form of snowboarding or skiing that is done without a fixed course on ungroomed backcountry terrain.
