Who Was Cha Gi-suk?
Cha Gi-Suk was born on 26 December 1986 in Pohang, South Korea. Cha Gi-Suk was a South Korean footballer who represented Bucheon FC in 1995.
The world's best goalkeeper first caught the attention of a bigger audience in 2002, when he competed in the Asian U-17 Championship and was named MVP. Then he traveled to the U-17 World Cup, and two years later he played in a competition held in the Netherlands - it was another World Cup, but this time for players in their early twenties.
The Koreans competed in all three group matches, including one against Nigeria. The team, which included Taye Taiwo and John Mikel Obi, lost by a score of 1: 2 against their Asian opponent.
Cha Gi-suk learned of the diagnosis shortly after training with the PSV Eindhoven club. Chronic kidney illness was discovered, and one of the organs had to be transplanted. In 2008, the treatment was repeated.
Despite his health issues, the footballer attempted to remain active, scoring a goal in the Korean third league in 2010. However, while he was only 24 years old, he was forced to terminate his competitive career.
He worked as goalkeeping and physical fitness coach for university teams after retiring from the field. A sudden relapse of the sickness occurred in 2019, and the former player died as a result of complications.
