Guram Dochanashvili was born in Tbilisi on March 26, 1939. He received his education at Tbilisi State University, where he majored in history. Dochanashvili's first short stories appeared in the journal "Tsiskari" in 1961.
Since the 1970s, his literary works have been well-received. Dochanashvili's most popular novel, The First Robe, was first published in 1975 and went on to become a Georgian classic.
