Madoff's death was attributed to "natural causes," but he was still suffering from terminal kidney failure. According to AFP, the federal Bureau of Prisons: “We can confirm Bernard Madoff passed away on April 14, 2021, at the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Butner, North Carolina.”
A medical examiner will decide the cause of death, they said.
Madoff's counsel, on the other hand, said that he was terminally ill. According to CNBC, Madoff was the mastermind behind "the greatest investment scam in US history," a $65 billion scheme. He died in jail after pleading guilty to the crime in 2009.
